Title:AMPLI-FIRE

The image is of a car audio amplifier engulfed in a ring of fire (hence the clever title) with hot "sound" particles spewing forth. It was produced entirely in Imagine, except for application of the copyright notice text.

The amplifier model is based upon a unit produced by Pyramid, and utilizes Imagine's procedural textures (mainly "Brushed") on all affected surfaces except the front panel, which also has a concrete style brush applied as an altitude map. It is largely a collection of extrusions and swept surfaces with some Boolean operations to produce features such as the depressed indicator dots in the control knobs. Magnetism was applied to a torus in selected locations to produce a malformed ring. "Fire" texture was applied to the entire ring, and "BeamMeUp" was applied to a subgroup approximating the lower half of the modified torus.

Within the Stage Editor, the objects were arranged with the torus completely surrounding the amplifier. The camera was placed slightly below the assembly and tracked to the amplifier's heat sink prior to final aiming. An additional reflective plane was added to the lower left corner after conforming it to a sphere. Then four lights were placed in the scene: a. Overhead Spot Light with parallel rays and casting shadows enabled; b. Underside illumination Light with spherical default; c. Fill Light #1 with spherical default, and; d. Fill Light #2 with parallel rays in circular pattern. Finally, the Action Editor was used to apply ambient light on the order of 17 to 23, and a touch of global fog. "Global Lens Flare" was applied with hexagonal flares restricted to near side of center. Rendering was done to .TIF format @ 1500x1000 pixels in ray trace mode.

The rendered image was imported into Hijaak Touch-Up for application of the copyright notification text.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Chris Griffin is a Mechanical Engineer who's interests in instrumental jazz and neoclassical fusion, bass guitar, hand percussion, ancient musical instruments, robots, nanotechnology, science fiction, and exotic creatures (real and fictional) lead him to some unusual medium to high resolution models which just may be suitable for something you have in mind. Rest assured that his 3D model and image portfolio is growing, albeit slowly.
